50+ pillowcases packed full of clothing and 150 pairs of spectacles are now on the High Seas on their way to needy villagers in Tonga. This is an annual joint project of Rotary Bay of Islands and The St John Op Shop in Russell with the generous support of Island Cruising and their Down Under Rally. Good quality used and new clothing is gathered, sorted and packed into pillowcases that can be easily stored out of the way in supporting yachts. These are then taken to Tonga and collected on arrival by the Nuku’alofa Rotary club who then distribute these to needy villagers who are so grateful for the gift of new-to-them clothes. The pictures show the clothes ready to distribute to the boats and the fleet underway. A future post will show the eventual distribution.
